Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
MISSION
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is designed for adults who, after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God and enter the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts. By God's help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and at the proper time will receive the Sacraments. (Introduction to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, 1)
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults at Sts. Joachim and Ann Parish seeks to provide a process of information and formation for adults who want to know more about the Catholic Church and what we believe. Hence, the process is well-suited for adults of other faith traditions interested in converting to Catholicism as well as for adults who may have been baptized in the Catholic tradition as infants but who never completed their sacramental initiation.
How is the initiation of new Catholics today different from times past?
The process of initiation today offers a fuller and more intensive preparation. The parish community ministers to Catechumens and Candidates by sharing faith with them and by supporting their conversion process. The Catechumens and Candidates minister to the community by allowing it to see their conversion in process. Through RCIA, the whole community is renewed in baptismal commitment.
